The Autonomous Region of Madeira, as an archipelago that it is, has to face everyday, geographic barriers that don't exist in other regions or countries. Therefore, the effort to keep up with all the innovation and the development of the New Technologies has to be stronger.
In this particular aspect, the European Union projects are also fundamental because they stimulate the knowledge search and the share of experiences among the countries members.
Constituted in 1997, as a Park of Science and Technology, the Madeira Tecnopolo has realized many initiatives together with the EU, as well as with other institutions partners, not only at the regional and national level, but also at the European level.
Turned specifically to areas as I&D and New Technologies, Madeira Tecnopolo, has participated, and still participates, in projects that have as ultimate goal to put Madeira in a notable position in these sectors.
Projects as the TourISt and the NeTur, helped to consolidate the knowledge acquired, and functioned as a stimulus in the search for new horizons. These projects have come to an end but the goals accomplished led up to an evolution of these sectors and made them more dynamic.
As an attempt to take the knowledge to everyone, there are in course other programmes as: A computer for all and To every family, a computer.
These are only few of the initiatives assumed by Madeira Tecnopolo, many others have already been done, and many more are in phase of concretisation. These are innovative plans, to run trough the ways of the future.
